While lots of people took the polar bear plunge in freezing water on New Year's Day, my eight year old son, Chase took another kind of plunge.
At the end of one of our Christmas Eve services at North Terrace, I walked off stage and over to my family to participate with them as the congregation sang Silent Night. With light from hundreds of candles filling the room, my son Chase greeted me with the following words, "Dad, tonight God told me that I am ready to be baptized."
Merry Christmas indeed.
Later that week Chase and I had a daddy/son date at Starbucks in Richmond, Indiana to talk about his decision to follow Jesus. I listened to his understanding of the Scriptures and God's plan for salvation and it was clear that God was working in his life.
Janie and I have been praying for our sons to give their lives to Christ since God brought them into our family through adoption. And now we have witnessed both of them do exactly that. Today, I went back to my prayer journal from 2009 and immediately saw the effect of becoming a father had on my prayers. The word "Chase" pops out page after page.
Seeing the evidence of God and the way He actively answers prayers in our lives spurs me on to keep the conversation going.
2017, you came in with a huge splash!
